I went back to the server and copied from the server to the USB drive with Would Laird suggestions work better for leaving off permissions ?. I think it it is best to not use the permissions. Now I will to go back and create redo each folder, delete the unknown accounts and add the users name. Which makes since, this is WorkGroup not a Domain, so even with the users name the same on both servers it will not match. With that error and the fact when it did copy from USB to new server, all the permissions on the Folders were messed up, it showed the SID name / ID rather than the user. The system cannot find the file specified. It was just a PDF file, it had copied many of them from the same folder and then had about 10 that it could not copy then went back to coping. well the errors were in the log when I was copying from the old server to the USB drive, so I know if skipped some files. When I got back to my shop and copy from USB to new Server D: it ran fast but had some errors. My concern about the hidden folder System Volume Information, will this cause a problem in the D drive of the new server to have System Volume Information from the D drive of the old server. It still tried the folders I did not want, but since it only waited 1 second it ran fast. Robocopy "E:" "D:" /E /ZB /DCOPY:T /COPYALL /R:1 /W:1 /V /TEE /LOG:Name.logĪs it ran I saw "tweaked" on many of the files, never seen that term when RoboCopy was running. When I saw it was trying to copy the directories I stopped it and ran the original without my add ins. Robocopy "D:" "F:" /E /ZB /DCOPY:T /COPYALL /xd "$RECYCLE.BIN" /xd "System Volume Information" /xd "Program Files" /R:1 /W:1 /V /TEE /LOG:Name.log Today I went to the customer and to see how long it would take to copy from the server to the USB drive, then take to my shop and copy from the USB drive to the new server.įirst I had added a couple of Directors to skip, that did not work it still did the copy and it was waiting 30 sec for the locked file even with the W:1. What would be the best RoboCopy command to use, that will copy only new data and not change the Permissions on the Folders or files ? The vendor software will not have to be re-installed on all the pc by keeping the name and IP the same. Yes that is an extra step but the new server has the same name and IP as the existing one. I will copy from the old server to the USB drive, and then from the USB drive to the new server. I want to copy just the new data to the new server when we are ready to swap. It took about 4.5 hours to do the copy from server to USB drive. So I had to go and add the users and Permissions to the Folders. I know there are switches to copy the Permissions, or only the Permissions but I did not use that. Robocopy E:\ d:\ /MIR /FFT /Z /XA:H /W:5 //log:c:\MirrorD_user.log /TEEĮ is the USB drive copy to D on new server. Robocopy D:\ F:\ /mir /r:2 /w:1 /zb /log:c:\MirrorD_user.log /TEEĭ is the data drive on the server and F the USB drive Old Server is 2008 R2, new 2019 Standard. I am setting up a new server for a customer and needed the data for software vendor to install program and test.
